SHAKTI became SHAKTI VARTA Dist. Partner

Shakti Organisation is being selected as District NGO partner of DFID imagesponsored TMST for the implementation of SHAKTI VARTA programme in Rayagada Dist.. SHAKTI VARTA is a flagship programme of Women & Child Development Department, Health & Family Welfare Department and Rural Development department of Govt. of Odisha with financial assistance of DFID. It is implemented in 15 high burden districts of Odisha, where the Infant Mortality Rate and Mothers mortality rate is high. SHAKTI VARTA is a process of empowering women through participatory learning and action(PLA) on health, nutrition and WASH. It aims to (i) empower women and communities; (ii) increase awareness of positive HNWASH practices; (iii) strengthen the delivery of community level services; and (iv) build the capacity of communities and citizens and local stakeholders to increase accountability and responsiveness of local service provision to communities. The Themes of PLA meetings are broadly classified as Antenatal care, Safe delivery, Neonatal care, Post Natal Care, Immunisation, Breastfeeding, Complementary feeding, Sleeping under net, personal Hygiene, Sanitation.

ASHA Training on HNBC held

20 days long 5 days each a batch Training to ASHA health workers held at Ramanaguda Shakti Rural Development Training center from 1st Dec.’ 13 to 20th Dec.’13. 120 nos. ASHA from Kolanara Block attended in the training programme. Training was imparted on home based neonatal care. As Trainer Mr. Manoj Swain, Mr. Rama Pradhan, Mr. Parmanada Mishra, Mr. Sarat Sahoo and Mr. Rabi Narayan Satpathy imparted training. And practical field visit was also conducted, where ASHAs practiced HBNC good practices. Mr. Shyamlendhu Padhi of Shakti Organisation co-ordinated the programme.

SHAKTI selected to dist. level senior citizen committee

SHAKTI Organisation is selected to the Rayagada District level Committee for “ Maintenance and Welfare of parents and Senior Citizens” for a three year term. On behalf of Shakti Orgsnisstion, its Secretary Mr. Akhil Ranjan Panda will represent in the committee. The committee will sit once in a quarter and discuss about health care and nutrition, protection of life and property and other matters of importance of senior citizens and will take steps to redress them. It will create awareness among senior citizens regarding their rights as envisaged in the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act and Rules. It will also recommend to the Government measures to be taken to improve the conditions of the senior citizens.

CHILDLINE SE DOSTI WEEK OBSERVED

CHILDLINE Rayagada observed a week long Childline se Dosti Campaign from 14th Nov. to 20th Nov.’ 13 in Rayagada.  It aimed to make ordinary citizens as stakeholders in CHILDLINE 1098 programme. During the campaign various activities conducted. The main objective of the programme was to reach out to people from different walks of life to get to know CHILDLINE, begin to care about vulnerable children and initiate action towards change and acquaint people with Child Rights and Protection. We conducted one rally, we involved the all allied departments in this campaign. We covered the District welfare office, Sarva Sikshya Abhijan office, Dist.. Education Office, Child welfare committee, DCPS, GRP, Railway Protection police, Dist. Headquater Hospital, Collectorate.. At community level we reached the Riksaw Pullers association, Media, Auto Riksaw union, Truck Union, Railway porters during the campaign. It was a grant success.

SHAKTI launched Scheduled caste welfare Project

Shakti Organisation has very recently from 1st Oct.’13 launched Scheduled Caste Empowerment and Livelihood Programme in Rayagada Block of Rayagada District. It is a special programme where exclusively the welfare of Scheduled Caste women’s is planned. It will cover 345 Households of 16 SC concentred villages. The project is planned for three years. Two hundred Households will be supported with individual income generating enterprises and 145 Households will be covered with Group Income Generating Enterprises. Petty business, Trellis based vegetable cultivation, Improved Goat rearing & Poultry and NTFP processing units like, tamarind processing, Hill Broom Binding, Leaf Plate sewing will be some of focused activities.

SHAKTI-CHILDLINE-Rayagada in SFCAC

SHAKTI-CHILDLINE-Rayagada nominated to the Rayagada Dist. Child Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee (SFCAC) under Integrated Child protection Scheme (ICPS). The committee will approve and invite applications of those children who are in need of care and protection, basically the orphan; single parent children to provide them foster care and sponsorship. Another important aim of the Programme is deinstitutionalization of children from Orphanages and facilitate for community based rehabilitation.

SHAKTI got Ambulance donation from SBI…

Shakti Organisation got an Ambulance as donation from the Community Services Banking Department of State Bank of India, one of the leading public sector Bank of India. The Chief General Manager of SBI, Bhubaneswar Circle Mr. Debendra Prasad handed over the key of Ambulance to Mr. Akhil Ranjan Panda, the General Secretary of SHAKTI in a function organized at SBI local Head office, Bhubaneswar. SHAKTI has been active in the field of community health care for the last twenty years. Among others the General Manager Mr. Rajib Barma, Deputy General Manager of Berhampur Zone Mr. Kausik Sinha and other officials of Bank present in the function.  Mr. Panda speaking to media said, this service will be free from all short of exploitation by private ambulance service providers to patients.

95 ASHAs’ got trained on Home based Newborn Care (HNBC)….

Shakti Organisation in association with NRHM(National Rural Health Mission) trained 95 ASHAs Accredited Social Health Activist of Ramanaguda Block on Home based Newborn Care (HNBC) at community level. They are provided with 5 days ASHA 6th & 7th module training round two in three batches.

Management of breast feeding problems, Child health, Infant and young child feeding, Assessing the mal-nutrition, immunization, Assessing and classifying diarrhea, Fever and ARI and new born care are the major focus area of the training. Field visits and practical orientations were provided on 4th day in all three batches. Lecture method, practical demonstrations, display of posters and screening of documentary shows were used as training methodologies. NRHM trained Trainers Mr. Sarat Ch. Sahu, Mr. Sasankar Panda, Mr. Paramanada Mishra attended as Resource Persons. Mr. Shyamlendhu Padhi of SHAKTI co-ordinated the residential training camps.

64th Republic Day Celebration at Shakti Old Age Home…

The 64th Republic Day was celebrated traditionally with gaiety and enthusiasm in the premises of Shakti Old Age Home.

Mr. Devraj Mishra Regional Manager of State Bank of India, Rayagada Regional Office was graced the occasion as chief guest. He hoisted the National Flag and in his speech he said “The freedom fighters of our country had dreamt of making an India which would fulfil the aspirations of people, ensure eradication of poverty give employment and people would have a decent living.”

He was very happy to see the residents of Shakti Old age home and its management.

He along with their colleagues also interacted with the old age inmates and distributed sweets and snacks.

Secretary and staffs of Shakti Organisation, employees of state bank of India and residents of Old Age Home was present.
